CAM: Legal Responsibilities


Many management decisions are influenced by the need to comply with legal requirements. A CAM needs to ensure compliance with federal and local laws, including Fair Housing regulations and applicant screening. Key concepts taught in this module include:

  • Understanding what reasonable accommodations and modifications are for persons with disabilities
  • Providing safe living conditions with adherence to resident rights
  • much more

To obtain the CAM credential, candidates must complete the following:

  • Minimum of 12 months of onsite property management experience (This can be obtained while taking the course; you will receive a provisional certificate until this requirement is met.)
  • Successful completion of all CAM coursework (totaling 40 hours)
  • Meet all examination standards within 12 months of declaring candidacy
